Getting a truck License

There are a lot of states that will allow drivers to drive a truck even without special licensing. Now, there is a minimum standards for drivers to drive trucks and buses. There are certain requirements that must be obtain to get your truck license. Truck drivers license is also called a commercial driver’s license. A CDL will allow a driver to drive any vehicle which weighs 26,000 pounds and transport 15 people and more. This license will also allow drivers to drive a vehicle that will be transporting hazardous materials. There is a certain application process that a person must undergo to obtain his or her commercial driver’s license.

Application

You must first get a commercial driver’s license application and a medical examination certificate when you want to have a truck driver’s license. You can get these applications and certificates at the Department of Motor Vehicles nearest you. You can also download your federal medical certificate online. There is a website in the Internet that will allow you to download these applications and certificates. This will be more convenient for you because you do not have to leave your home to obtain any of these. But make sure you verify these forms.

Complete

After obtaining these application forms, you must fill it up and complete it. You can also get your medical examination from a physician who has the proper license. The physician can then do the examination for you. After getting the medical examination you can complete the certificate. The medical certificate and the commercial driver’s license application are very important to get your tuck driver’s license.

Fee

If you are done filling up the forms and completing them, you must have enough funds to pay for the application fee. You can submit the completed application form to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Make sure you bring with you or include in the forms the appropriate application fee. The application fee will depend on each state. There are different prices for application fee in every state.

Exam

after that you must take and pass the written knowledge exam. There are states that will require you to pay an additional fee to take this exam. After paying the fee and passing the exam, you can continue with your truck driver’s license application. 80 percent is the score that is required by the federal government. But there are other states that may require higher scores to pass the exam.

Skills test

You must also pass the skills test or road test. You can set an appointment with the Department of Motor Vehicle so that you can take these tests. If you are a good driver and you have a great driving record, then some states may allow you exempt you from the skills test or the road test. Make sure you check the requirements of your state before you start the process of obtaining a CDL.
